As part of the 1st Delaware Week for the Animals WKC Members Pat Bagger with Lila, Sharon Naylor with Switzer, and Cheryl Costello paid a visit to Foulk Manor North on Saturday, April 19th, 2008. There was a lovely porch picnic for residents and those attending. Our Club works hard to help the community, not just in providing dog training classes or educating the public. Here's another effort in the works!
Delaware Family Emergency Preparedness Day
When: Saturday, September 9th
It was actually quite amazing - who knew that Cranston Heights had an 18wheel - BIG RIG that is a DeCon unit - showers down each side and all sorts of equipment on it, I mean it was BIG - like one of the Allied Furniture movers trucks where it goes to the ground, all white with just the lettering "DECON" - it also looks very new. Lots of other Emergency Response Vehicles, the K9 Unit trainer was there with one of the dogs (his dog was trained with all German commands, a Malinois). The water rescue unit was there and then the aerial basket they use with the helo - it was too foggy so the copter did not show.............DEMA was there and many other groups.
We used the AKC's Suggestion list for the items in our evacuation kit for
animals and had the 2 stuffed dogs there as it was too hot for live animals.
This was on the Red Cross site................
September is National Preparedness Month, and the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula has joined with Delaware Citizen Corps and other state, county, and local agencies for 2nd annual Family Preparedness Day. The event, hosted by the Wilmington Citizen Corps, will feature several training sessions to help Delawareans prepare for an emergency. Families can learn how to make an emergency plan and assemble an emergency kit through the Delaware Citizens Corp and American Red Cross. In addition, the Delaware Division of Public Health will provide information on pandemic influenza precautions. Information on emergency animal and pet care will also be available. Numerous local fire companies, law enforcement agencies and safety providers will be on hand to provide demonstrations and displays. Join us for an educational day of safety.
