CANINE EYE SCREENING CLINIC (CERF) with Dr. Lionel F. Rubin
In the interest of breeding better dogs genetically, all
breeding stock should be examined and cleared annually by a VETERINARY
OPHTHALMOLOGIST in order to continue in any breeding program. A Veterinary
Ophthalmologist is a specialist who has the knowledge and instruments to
detect many conditions present in dogs. This is a general eye exam, which
can also detect non-genetic abnormalities and problems. However, it is not a
medical examination for existing problems; it is a screening exam for dogs
which may enter into a breeding program.

Legislation
Happy New Year everyone.
2006 was a pretty active year
in canine legislation. I want to thank all those who got involved
by attending the meetings, writing letters and emails, making phone
calls and sending me information about different places acting on
BSL, and of course all the moral support. Without your help, I
can't do this.
After several meetings and a
lot of emotional and sometimes confrontational speeches, New Castle
County decided not to pursue BSL. Also the Town of New Castle
decided against BSL. The PAWS act died but will more than likely be
reintroduced this year.
AKC and some of the breed
groups are predicting that 2007 is also going to be very active in
canine legislation. Some of the animal rights groups have joined
forces and they have a lot of money to back them up. This joining
of different organizations will make them a lot stronger and more
active. We have to keep aware of issues that pop up so for this yr.
I am again asking for support and for information if you hear of
things that could affect our rights to own dogs.
Just to put it in perspective,
we hear all the time about places that do pass BSL but attached is a
list of places that decided against BSL. We seldom hear of the
wins but it is good to know that there are a lot of places and
people involved all across the country that still fight for their
rights to own dogs.
Thanks again
