ANNUAL CANINE HEALTH CLINIC
Saturday, February 25, 2006
WKC Training Building, Newark,
Delaware
CANINE EYE
SCREENING CLINIC (CERF) with Dr. Lionel F. Rubin
In the interest
of breeding better dogs genetically, all breeding stock should be examined
and cleared annually by a VETERINARY
OPHTHALMOLOGIST in order to continue in any breeding program. A Veterinary
Ophthalmologist is a specialist who has the
knowledge and instruments to detect many conditions present in dogs.
This is a general eye exam, which can also detect non-genetic
abnormalities and problems. However, it is not a medical examination
for existing problems; it is a screening exam for dogs which may
enter into a breeding program.
AKC CANINE GOOD
CITIZEN TEST
Earning the CGC
will ensure that your dog is a well-respected member of your community. The
Canine Good Citizen award is one of the
first AKC certificates your dog can earn and the CGC provides an
excellent foundation for all other training. The test is open to all
purebreds and mixed breeds. Get your registration form back early.
Tests will be scheduled on a first come first served basis. The number
of tests will be limited.

AKC DNA
CERTIFICATION
The AKC DNA
Certification Program brings cutting-edge DNA testing technology to dog
owners. We will collect the DNA sample from
the dog and return it to AKC. The sample is processed by AKC’s DNA
service provider, MMI Genomics, and the resulting genotype is
entered into the AKC DNA Database. The information can be used to
verify parentage of AKC dogs and for genetic identity purposes.
DNA Certification is required for stud dogs whose semen is collected,
for fresh-extended or frozen use. AKC Certification is also required
for frequently used sires (7 or more litters), effective for litters
whelped on or after July 1, 2000 or sires over the age of 12. You will
receive a certificate directly from
AKC in about 6 weeks.

President’s Message
Holiday greetings to all of our two and four-legged
friends! The club has had a very busy Fall/Winter season. Our Show and
Go's continue to be successful thanks in large part to the generous
donations of time to organize them on the part of our volunteers. In
October we had a successful (although WET!!!) agility trial with lots of
wonderful comments from our exhibitors. Unfortunately the park is
imposing conditions that may make it prohibitively expensive to return
to our site there however alternate locations are being sought and we
have not completely ruled out returning to the park site despite the
costs if we can not find a suitable alternate location. Again many
thanks to our Agility Trial committee for their tireless efforts in
putting on these events twice a year. Our classes are filled to
capacity and keeping our hard working instructors busy through the
holiday season. Our next session starts the week of January 2nd.
Looking into 2006 our Health Clinic will be here before you know it (see
details elsewhere in this newsletter) and again our hardworking
committee has been hard at work for awhile now lining up services to be
provided for that event. We will have most of the usual services we've
had in the past available that day. Please see the website for full
details and a downloadable sign up form. Sign up early and please
volunteer to come out and help if you can. It takes a big group effort
to keep things running smoothly with all of the dogs and people coming
and going. A happy and safe Holiday Season to all!!
